A few years later in 1967, the company went to work on Caliber 6138 and Caliber 6139, both of which were designed to be self-winding. The history of the Seiko 7018 arguably starts clear back in 1964 with the release of the 5717/5719 movement, which was the first wrist chronograph developed in Japan for the mass-market.
